So here I am in the city with no other real purpose than to walk around and enjoy it’s beauty and photograph anything I want… I’m alone for this part of my journey except for meeting up with several of the Bruce Bud’s I have met through the years that live in the Boston area.  Last night my brother Bruce dropped me off at my hotel on the edge of Beacon Hill … I took my sling bag and two cameras and started walking the neighborhood stopping at the infamous Acorn Street.

Then I took the subway down to Government Center and Fanueil Hall, had some chowder and walked around enjoying the street musicians and people … 

 The sun is not yet up and according to the news, a big storm is moving in and my luck weatherwise may be running out, coat and umbrella in hand, I am heading out again ..

I’m here and the weather and company have been wonderful !  1st stop Winthrop to visit the family.  My neice Christina was home from Springfield College and brought a few friends with her… We walked across the street to the beach and took a few fun jumping shots with her friends and younger sister Laura Jean ! I just love these !

Well I have been reduced to checking the weather, the extended 10 day forecast and the “most recent ” posted pictures on Flickr from the Boston area every morning while I drink my coffee… I came across this beautiful one this morning of the Back Bay ( where I will be on my photo walk tour on Wednesday ) taken by Fabiano Michels…Click on the photo for a larger version…

Please windy weather that is due to hit tomorrow, hold off just a bit longer… My friend PG http://annoyinglyboring.com/ in Boston has even taken to talking to the leaves for me..

On second thought… I will just go with it !! Earlier this year, I had the umbrella fascination…It may just be that I am about to photograph alot of umbrellas..

celebrating my recovery from hip replacement surgery and running around with my camera on photo walks in Beacon Hill and Back Bay in between visiting family in Winthrop!  I was searching Flickr last night and came across some pictures taken by Southiejason and found out he took them from Top Of The Hub which I now plan on going to if I can take the heights !

I keep checking the reports and peak foliage has passed for northern New England but next week is supposed to be peak in Boston and I arrive Saturday morning I missed it by 3 weeks last year and it was still gorgeous. I know I will be swept off my feet by the City this trip !

Carrying a camera and all the equipment can be a hassle, but can also be a very rewarding experience and you just never know when something wonderful will happen.

I am not a gigantic sports fan, but I knew while on a recent trip to Boston that getting tickets to a Red Sox game was a big deal! I had taken a tour of Fenway Park during my last trip (off season ) in November and was in awe of the history in the ball park but my adrenaline was off the board when I arrived for an actual game! From the moment I boarded the subway to go to the game, I knew I was in for an experience! Red Sox fans are the most enthusiastic fans I have ever seen and the excitement was infectious!

I stayed in my assigned seat in the outfield near first base for a few innings and then started wandering. I wandered all the way across the ball park to the third base outfield. I stopped and took pictures from different angles all along the way. I finally found an empty single seat against the wall and sat down, changed lenses and took a shot with Manny on 2nd base and all of a sudden the crowd went crazy! 1 second later, a single fan jumped up just as I took my next shot. During the inning change, I reviewed my shots and it came to me .. If I were that fan, I would want a copy of this picture. He didn’t even know that it existed.

Many times I get home and I have pictures of strangers that have been in my viewfinder during a shot and I think to myself ” wow, that is a wonderful shot, too bad I can’t get this picture to this person” , so this time I decided to not let the opportunity pass and I walked down to him and offered to send it to him. At first he thought I was reprimanding him for “ruining” my picture ! He gave me his email address and I emailed it to him upon my return to California.

He sent a super nice thank you and I was so glad I took the risk of sharing this with him. I was a little nervous because it might not always turn out so positively, but I will definitely do it again because it really was such a rewarding experience.
